Vallenato

Vallenato´s origin comes from old songs composed by peasants in the area of Valledupar. Vallenato is composed of various instruments which come from spain, Europe and Africa; la caja, a small drum similiar to a conga, la guacharaca, similiar to a ¨closed hi-hat¨, el acordeon( picture above , on the left) and other various instruments. While people play these instruments , one of them sings. The mayority of the songs demonstrated ¨a critic of the social context of the time¨.Their songs were mainly not romantic, but its influence was perceived from the arahuacos and the guajiros, and afterwards from the Africans, and later from the Europeans. The Europeans brought an great touch to vallenato, bringing in the acordion, ( accordion of buttons).

Vallenato is not only a type of music that originated in el Valle, Vallenato can be can be refered to as a way of living, a way of being, basically this music embrasses the 4 types of typiccal culture and rythym of our region and it represents the personal life within each author bringing to out the feeling they carry within them.
